Congratulations to Matthew Neve for winning the Archery GB January Winter Challenge Class 1 trophy

Matthew Neve from Perriswood Archers has competed in the 2017 Invictus Games in Canada. Winning the Open Recurve team Gold with team mates Gareth Paterson and Kieran Wood.

“I served in the RAF back from 2001 - 2004. I was deployed on operations and seen some pretty awful things which led to an on set of depression, PTSD and other mental illnesses.

I kind of lost my way until back in June last year I picked a recurve bow up for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it no found it calmed me and took away my stress allowing me to just focus on the target and where the arrow hits.

I then joined Perriswood Bowmen and was being coached by Brian Williams and found my standard improving quickly.

I trained hard and attended Invictus trials back in April and took the highest score on the field! I then found out I had been selected for the Invictus games on 30th May. The sense of achievement was massive, I felt a purpose a meaning and a feeling of self worth!

 The way that sports recovery has helped is massive and I would encourage anyone who is suffering mental or physical disabilities to have a go at sport and you will find how beneficial it really is!

With the support of my family, coach at Perriswood and my sponsors KG Archery I have got to the games! Now to bring them medals home in September:) “ {Which he did}
